Jefferson Celebrates Goal Setting

On Thursday, March 26, Jefferson held their quarterly Goal Setting Celebration. All students from K-5 set goals at the beginning of every marking period. They post their goals outside the classroom and monitor them with guidance from their teachers throughout the quarter. Students who achieve their goals are invited to the "Goal Setting Celebration" for a special reward. This marking period we celebrated with the Lehigh Valley Steel Hawks, an indoor football team. These six players spoke about their goals as athletes, obstacles they face, and ways to overcome their obstacles. They cheered for our students; our students were beyond delighted to have them. These six players participated in two assemblies, offered academic support in classrooms, and visited all of our lunches to chat with our students. The fun didn't just serve our students who met their goals but these players took time to visit the students who did not achieve their goals and offer advice on ways to persevere through difficult times and not give up.
The players who visited our school were:
OL - John Alvarez
OL - Oscar Gonzalez
LB - Dozie Oparanozie
WR- Brandon Renford
DB - Joe Powell
DE - Chris Mayes
We extend a special thank you to Chris Thompson, head football coach, of the Lehigh Valley Steel Hawks for making educational outreach a priority in our community. Our next goal celebration is June 4, 2015.
